Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is comprised of a multi-disciplinary team of specialists who provide care to people who have chronic (ongoing) breathing problems to improve your overall quality of life. The team can include: pulmonary physicians, respiratory therapist, physical therapist, physiologists, occupational therapist, and dietitians who have expertise in the care of patients with chronic pulmonary disease.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To provide the individual with a better understanding of his/her disease process.
  • To assist the individual in developing methods to cope with his/her disease.
  • To promote and maintain improvement in physical capabilities.
  • To improve over-all quality of life
  • To decrease the number of hospitalizations.

  • Sarcoidosis
  •  
  • Lung Volume Reduction Surgery
  •  
  • Lobectomy/Pneumonectomy/VATS
  •  
  • Emphysema
  •         
  • Asthma
  •       
  • COPD
  •       
  • Bronchiectasis
  •       
  • Lung transplant
  •       
  • Lung cancer
  •       
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  •       
  • Pulmonary Fibrosis

*Any individual who has a chronic pulmonary disease that affects their functional status, therefore their quality of life, are candidates for pulmonary rehabilitation.
     

Program Details:


  • Education discussing breathing techniques, disease process, medications, oxygen therapy, exercise technique.
  • Strength and endurance conditioning
  • Oxygen dosing
  • Nutrition education
  • Smoking cessation programs
  • Recommend to physician any changes and progress

A typical length of a pulmonary rehabilitation program is eight to twelve weeks, two to three times per week, and is covered by most insurances. The length of time per workout depends on the individual program.
